Award of £2,000,000 for seriously injured client

We are pleased to confirm the details of a recent settlement negotiated on behalf of one of our clients. 

Mrs L was a front seat passenger in a car which was being driven by her Father. She was wearing her seat belt. Unfortunately, her vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a car which was travelling in the opposite direction.

It was common ground that the other driver's vehicle was on the wrong side of the road.  However, liability for the accident was fiercely contested by the other driver's insurers, who argued that their driver had suffered a heart attack at the wheel, which had resulted in her temporarily losing consciousness. They disputed liability on the grounds that their client was not in control of her actions at the time of the collision. With the assistance of Bill Braithwaite QC and one of the leading cardiac experts in the UK, we successfully refuted this argument.

As a consequence of the accident, Mrs L had suffered serious injuries which had left her wheelchair bound. Following negotiations with the other side, the claim was settled in the sum of £2,000,000.
